How Autosocks work - Benefits - Tests and Approvals -
From the early days on, AutoSock was developed in cooperation with textile competence centres such as Reutlingen University / Germany, leading car makers and textile fibre manufacturers.
The scientific foundation for developing a textile device with excellent friction on snow and ice is called Tribology – describing wet vs dry friction:
The AutoSock has:
- A specially designed surface pattern that makes the total contact area exposed to dry (=high) friction as large as possible both under dry and wet snow or ice conditions.
- Hairs between and at the contact areas in order to increase the totally exposed contact area to friction.
- A combination of surface pattern, strength and elasticity that make the contact points sufficiently sticky under hard snow or ice condition.

RTA Recommendations - Extract
Full Recommendations by RTA - June 9th 2009
Extract - In recommendations released by the RTA persons driving 4WD or AWD vehicles should take measures to improve the vehicles performance capabilities by either; fitting winter tyres, or Carrying snow chains or equivalent snow traction devices, and fitting them when recommended.
Persons driving 4WD or AWD vehicles not fitted with winter tyres should carry and fit snow chains or an alternative snow traction device that provides an equivalent performance as snow chains. Such traction devices, such as items made from textiles, should comply with the Austrian Standard ONORM V5121 (the AutoSock complies with this standard)
The RTA also recommends drivers read their car manual to ensure that chains can be fitted.
